GB launches in Newham

10 September 2013

Custom House Baptist Church’s new GB group will be supported by an incredible 11 new volunteer leaders including Team Leader Bose Agbesanwa, the minister’s wife.
Some of the children who attended are pictured with the new GB team, their parents and local Councillor Pat Holland and the launch event was covered by the Newham Recorder.
One of the new GB leaders, Ayo Agbesanwa, says ‘Looking around Custom House it’s easy to see where young girls can take a wrong turn. By establishing a strong and vocal GB in the community, we hope to inspire girls to live life to the full and help to raise their self-esteem.’
Another new leader, Olayinka Ogunrinade, says ‘The outreach event we conducted reaffirmed that our mission to establish the first GB in Newham was from the Lord.’

One of GB’s London Development Workers, Sally Claydon ran the leaders’ training session in June and she also helped run a GB stand at the Custom House and Canning Town Summer Festival, in June, where they promoted the new groups.
Sally says ‘Six of the Custom House team joined with volunteers from Essex to run a stand at the local summer festival where balloons, sweets, wristbands and information were handed out to interested girls and their families.’
Custom House Baptist Church hopes to set up n:vestigate and n:spire groups in due course.
