Week 1 – What is Resilience?
Resilience is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy,
threats or significant sources of stress — such as family and relationship problems,
serious health problems or workplace and financial stressors. It means “bouncing back” from difficult experiences. ( American Psychological Association)
We are all born with some form of Resilience. It’s a skill that can be learnt and our
levels of resilience change and develop through out our life journey.
Why is Resilience important?
Resilience is the skill that helps us to bounce back when we face our adversities or difficulties. *It gives us stability and protect us from depression and mental issues.
*Resilient children are always healthier, happier and more successful in their school work.
*Develops self esteem , perseverance and independence.
* Ability to build positive relationship with others
What builds Resilience in children?
* a caring and stable environment that support healthy development
* building relationships with positive role models
* Good communication
* exposure to opportunities to learn skills and take part in purposeful or meaningful
activities
